A very unfinished model of the Japanese Ki Ha 40 train from the late 70s. I loved this train primarily for the reason a few are used as "joyful trains" where they are painted with beautiful patterns and used as leasure/sight seeing trains in Japan, it also feels very "Showa" retro, that period of Japan a lot of people enjoy.
I modelled this originally in 3Ds Max as a high detail model for 3D printing as a large scale kit, however I also decided to use it as a tech art test piece inside Unreal Engine, I've returned to it years later to finally get it moving again to a higher standard but have displayed here an early version of the exterior with UVs made with Rizom UV, simple baking from Substance 3D Painter and renders from Marmoset Toolbag.
I wish to continue working on this to have a fully textured asset in Unreal with the ability to change livery colours and simple interactions inside, not a tall task but worth working towards to try and do this train some justice.
